Further Education Once students have finished GCSEs there are a a a a range of options to choose from Their secondary school may have a a a a a a “sixth form” where they can stay to to complete years 12 & 13 which will prepare them for A-Levels and entry to to University Another option for students after they’ve finished their GCSEs is is to to move to to a a a a separate “sixth form” or or further education college In further education students can pick the the the subjects they would like to study Different schools and and college will offer different different subjects and and different different exams exams you can take These exams exams will normally be A-levels BTEC or or the International Baccalaureate Students can also decide to go for a a a a a a a a a more practical route by completing a a a a a a a a work-based qualification known as as an apprenticeship or a a a a a a a a National Vocational Qualification Both these types of qualifications will allow them to follow a a a a a a a a a particular career path or can be used for entry to university Higher Education Once pupils finish further education they can choose to advance their studies at one of the the many universities in the the UK There are around 150 universities universities in the the UK As well as degrees universities universities may offer other qualifications including the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Foundation degree The entry requirements for university usually includes a a a student’s exam results results from their their A-levels IB exams or similar In addition to their their results results a a a a written personal statement is also submitted which can be be described as a a a a a a short essay on why the the student is an an an ideal candidate for the the university and and their chosen degree subject Choosing what degree to to study at at university is is a a a a difficult decision to to make but advisors at at the the secondary school or or college will help look at at the the options and prepare accordingly It’s also important that students research their options in in advance to make sure they are making the the the best decision for their
